My name is Donna and I have lived in Alaska most of my life. My Dad came to alaska in 1975 on a two week hunting trip. He liked it so much be brought us all up here from Florida. My family has all moved away now but I just couldn’t think of leaving. I love Alaska. I love the beauty, the different seasons, the snow, and the people. It is definitely a wonderful place to raise children.
I met my husband here in 1990 when we were both working at the westmark hotel. His family also came to Alaska in 1975 but they came from California. Now we’ve been married for almost 17 years. We have two boys who are 11 & 14.
My husband is the one who gave me my nickname, bug, I have no idea why but it stuck.
I like to write of course, which is why I have this blog. I also like to write poetry on occasion. I love to take pictures but at the moment I’m limited to using my cell phone camera. My other camera was lost at the Heart walk this year so I’m sorry for the not-so-hot quality. I recently helped raise money for the American Heart Association and walked in honor of my Mother who died in February. My current ambition is to make 1,000 paper cranes to send to 1,000 wounded soldiers. I am a member of Soldiersangels.org and write to wounded soldiers every week. I also love to read which leads to another ambition. I love to get books into the hands of other people and when I am able I volunteer for the Literacy Council of Alaska. I think it’s important for Children to have books available and to see people reading and enjoying reading.
Well, that’s me in a nutshell.
