About
My name is Donna and I have lived in Alaska most of my life. My Dad came to Alaska in 1975 on a two week hunting trip. He liked it so much be brought us all up here from Florida. My family has all moved away now but I just couldn’t think of leaving. I love Alaska. I love the beauty, the different seasons, the snow, and the people. It is definitely a wonderful place to raise children.
I met my husband, Chris, here in 1990 when we were both working at the Westmark hotel. His family also came to Alaska in 1975 but they came from California. Now we’ve been married for 19 years. We have two boys who are 14 and almost 17 years old. My husband is the one who gave me my nickname, bug, I have no idea why but it stuck.
I recently became the Fairbanks Coordinator for Project Linus and I really enjoy it. Together with a bunch of volunteers from the community we gather home-made blankets for children who have been through a crisis, trauma or or suffering from a serious illness. It’s amazing to see what the community can do when they pull together to help those in need!
I also like to write of course, which is why I have this blog. I recently started writing for Associated Content under the pen name Kay Raisy. I chose that name because I am “crazy” but the good kind of crazy :O) I enjoy writing poetry and occasionally an article or two. It is great therapy especially when chronic pain and other medical problems keep me grounded. I also love to paint which I plan to do a lot more of in the years to come. I have found that painting with watercolors is great therapy as well. Add to that my love of gardening and books and you would know me pretty well.
Thanks for stopping by and reading about my passions.
