Sick but colorful

I have been so sick.  I think I have the black plague.  It just wont go away!  I have been sick since about the 2nd week of January.  I’ll have a day or so where I think, “hey, I think I’m getting better” and then usually that night I’ll get really insanely sick again and cough all night.  I’m not even sure I have any lungs now.  I’ve been coughing so hard my throat is raw and I sound like…..a frog…a really scary, craggy, next to dead frog.  I haven’t been able to do anything creative and I’ve been barely able to read or focus on anything for long.  I don’t want to try to make a card either because I don’t want to contaminate all my craft stuff and I really don’t think anyone would like a cute card laced with Black Plague cootie glitter.  But, I always seem to find a way to do something art/craft related.

I introduce you to

I found this a while back actually and didn’t realize it.  I have a twitter account that I still am not sure what to do with or why I have it at all…. but I was messing around with the design of my profile and they have this thing called Themeleon.  I clicked on that and was taken to this website which is part of the above mentioned “colourlovers” website.  They have some really cool designs to use as backgrounds and really nice color palettes.  That must have been in the fall because I had this neat fall leaves design going on.  I decided it was time to change that to something more springy but at the moment it seems to be broken. I hope they will fix it soon. Anyway, I ended up clicking the header that says “Colour Lovers” and went to the main website and there I stayed….. playing with digital paint for a very long time.

So there are these 5 blocks of gray.  I can play with the rainbow thing until I find a color I like and click to set it and move to the next square.  After I have five colors chosen for my palette I name it.  It is then available to use to color designs by me or anyone else that is a member.  People can “love” your palettes and your designs and leave you nice comments.  Also, if you happen to use a color that no one has named yet, you get to name it and it goes in a list of “your colors”  I have a ton of colors.

I really enjoy creating palettes and designs using inspiration around me like music or a pretty fabric bag.  I get creative with the names also.

I usually watch the Voice and American Idol but this whole week I have missed all shows because I’ve been so sick.  I was able to listen to the American Idol performances on Youtube and I was inspired by Jessica Meuse’s performance of Call Me by Blondie.

I really love her because of her COLOR.  The pink she has in her hair is a color I love.  Then she added some blue as a sign of her support for Autism Awareness and that is another color I love.  National Autism Awareness Month this year began on Tuesday, April 1 and ends on Wednesday, April 30.  Show your support by sporting some blue.

I don’t know how she pulls off those colors in her hair but she does.  I know if I tried it I would just look like a clown.

I designed this palette inspired by Jessica Meuse.

And here is where I applied those colors to a striped pattern

I can create my own designs using shapes and lines they have available or I can color designs other people have made. I am so glad I found this creative outlet for times like this.

Oh, and I did enjoy her singing.  I have listened to that video about a hundred times.  Nearly all the performances from Wednesday night were very good and I keep playing them all.  I really think they should just quit right now and just make them all Idols.  I really hate the eliminations.  It always makes me cry.

I just started using Spotify and I love it.  It is a music player that lets you search and select songs and make playlists.  There is a free version or you can subscribe for a fee to avoid advertisements.   I love how it can connect with facebook so I can share songs, albums or playlists I like with friends.  I was worried it wasn’t legal at first but then I read more about it and found out it is supported by major record companies.  Apparently, every time I listen to a song the artist gets paid.  My son was trying to explain to me that Spotify is a “peer to peer” network but I had to look up this webpage for a better explanation on what that was.  This page is called “how Spotify works for Dummies” and it explains it really well.  It just makes it easier for you to get your music quicker and without delays.

The only problem I had using Spotify was resolved with a little tinkering.  I could listen to a song and a few seconds of the next and then silence…… I would get this annoying error displayed across the top in yellow “There was a problem storing temp files on the hard disk,  Maybe the hard disk is full”.  Well I know I don’t have much space on my C drive and that is why I have an external hard drive that I use for most everything.  I use chrome though so I had to figure out where my temporary files were being stored and see about moving that folder to my external drive.  I watched this video on youtube that explains how to change the location.

He does have a bit of an accent but I figured it out and it works!  I did have to restart my computer first but now I don’t have any problems at all.  You can also go to Edit – Preferences and then change the setting for “cache”.  I have mine set to use no more than 10% of free disk space.

Spotify is very much like itunes except you don’t have to buy the songs.  Most of the time I still do go and buy the song so I can add it to my mp3 player.  That makes me feel better, especially since I like supporting new artists.

I’d love to hear if you have any opinions, concerns or thoughts about Spotify.  I am just curious- I don’t work for them or anything LOL

Easy Saturday’s at home

Sometimes the best thing to do on a cold Saturday is to snuggle in and take it easy.  I tinkered around some but mostly I listened to music.  I’m still organizing my itunes.  After my other laptop died my husband put all of our music together (to avoid duplicates) and then he set up my new (to me) laptop with itunes and dumped it ALL in.  It’s all in a shared holder on another hard drive so if the wireless cuts out my music stops working.  Anyway, I have every song everyone in the house has downloaded or uploaded- EVER!  Many of the songs are from CD’s we had.  He copied them all to itunes so we wouldn’t need the CD’s (or a player) unless we lost our music on the computers.  Well, I don’t like having all of this extra music and all the crazy genres!  That is my biggest pet peeve… there are so many different genres that the music is all over the place.  Half will be labeled one thing and have another so sometimes I buy a song thinking I don’t have it.  ERrrgh!  So I’ve been sorting and putting things back in order (my order).  I’ve deleted a lot of crap too.  I can’t imagine how anyone could consider screaming music.  It makes me wonder how they even know what the lyrics are or even what song they are listening to.  Hmmm… things to ponder.  Or not.  I just deleted it.

Yesterday and today I have been listening to some old rock music.  Some people (who live here but who shall remain un-named) like to label it as classic rock, old rock, soft rock, other, a very descriptive “genre” or oldies.  As I see it, if I remember the song it cannot be considered an “oldie” or “classic”.  If I live to be 100 maybe but not just yet.  I prefer to label music as the genre it is or was at the time.  I have smart playlists set up in iTunes to sort music by dates depending on the decade and then from there I can sort by genre.  That makes “the best of” albums a pain in the keester.  I have been looking up the actual dates for each song so they go where they should.

Anyhoo, yesterday I listened to the Beatles all day.  I forgot how much I loved their music!  Hey Jude is one of my favorites.

This is a song I had started to learn on the guitar and it makes me want to get it out and try again.  I do have more time now and a really nice guitar that deserves to be played more than dusted.

Today I listened to a little Jimi Hendrix and a lot of Eric Clapton and Cream.  I have to admit that some of this music is actually older than I am but I still love it.  I think once you label something “classic” it gets shelved and listened to less.  I really think we should take another look at what we used to call music and compare it to what we have today.  It is sounding a lot less like music to me!

How about a little “sunshine of your love?”  I love listening to the guitar music in this.

Here is another good one

How sad that such a wonderfully talented musician died at such a young age!  27 I think…..  That happens way too often.

I would have liked to meet that guy and shake his talented hand.  Maybe some of it would rub off on me.  😉

Have a wonderful restful right and beautiful Sunday!

Another Day another Love Note

This morning I woke up feeling like I just might make it.  I’ve been so sick!  I felt like a zombie looking for an apocalypse.  I don’t think I’ve been that sick in a really long time and I thought it would never end.  Finally, I feel like the end is near.  I still slept for a really long time and then I actually got up and cleaned up a bit.  After a while I suddenly felt tired again and went back to sleep but I’m so glad to feel like a human again.

This morning I made a love note for my husband using a quote from Nicholas Sparks’ book, The Notebook.  It is a little on the long side so I wrote it out on a sheet of one of those lined sticky note pads so I had plenty of room.

“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I’ve ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours. ”
― Nicholas SparksThe Notebook

After he left for work I went back in to check to see if he moved it where I thought he did.  Sure enough, I opened my side of the mirror and on the back of the inside is a grouping of several of my love notes.

When he went to the store the other day he came home with a bunch of pretty pink tulips for me.  They are so pretty!  They are like little works of art.  I haven’t taken a picture yet but I’ll add one later.  Have you ever looked closely at the inside of a tulip?  They are beautiful!  He also keeps buying me packages of Earl Grey tea which is my favorite.  So now I have 3 boxes of it LOL

Anyway, now that I’m feeling a bit back to normal I think I’ll sip my cup of tea and listen to some soothing music.  Several years back I had the pleasure of seeing Lúnasa preform here in town.  I have never forgotten how beautiful they sounded live in the auditorium.  I bought their CD and this is one of my favorite songs on it.  If you take a look there are several of their songs on and it is so peaceful.  Their website is at and you can even order a CD using paypal.  I copied my CD to my itunes so I could listen to it on my ipod.   I bet if I didn’t it would be worn out by now.

Stuck on Crystal Bowersox

This is a long post full of songs by Crystal.  I love making posts like this because then later I can come back here and listen to all these songs again.

This is a new song I found.  Its a music video even.  I love how the yarn is unraveling at the beginning and then she’s knitting it back into a sweater.  Also, if you look at the TV when it first starts and off and on throughout the video, you’ll see her sweet little boy.

Here is another sad song by Crystal

Something tells me she didn’t have a good relationship with her mom.

I’m going to have to buy her album

I could listen to her all day…… and night.

I have to say, I’m surprised she recorded a country album.  She is talented and had so many different ways she could go but I do like it!  She does have that thing that the Judds had that I loved so much.  Its a bit country with a huge dollop of sazzy-jazzyness.

This is my favorite right now….   I love it.

Dang….. I don’t think this song has ever been sung better.

This is one of my favorite songs ever and then she  sings it and makes it better.

Okay wait… no, this ones my favorite…  Its a music video/car commercial but I love love love this song!

Of course you can save the flowers, sweets and other good stuff for me!  For my birthday week!

Another good one….

This one is from American Idol 2011

This is a pretty song

When this song started I thought it was a commercial and was already turning it down.  This is a really fast song and very upbeat…. kinda reminds me of a coca cola commercial.

Would you believe me if I told you I left some out??

Here is another good one… Saved by Grace

This is the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen…..  Crystal sings with her husband Brian

Crystal at age 13 sings her own song that sounds very jewel-esqe.  Its really pretty but its really really long.

okay, I digress :O)  for now…
