WordPress Blog Prompt: What’s the 11th item on your bucket list?

Well I don’t actually have a bucket list written down but I do have several things I’ve always wanted to do like hang-gliding, riding a hot air balloon, go to Italy…etc.  I have always wanted to go skiing and I live in Alaska and have never gotten to go.  I really wish I had gone when I was younger and before I got fibromyalgia.  Now, I’ll probably never be able to do it.

A friend of mine just went skiing.  I saw her pictures online and was so excited for her…. Then, I was jealous.  I really REALLY wanted to go and my husband doesn’t want to go down hill skiing.  He tried it before and had a miserable time.  He only likes cross-country skiing.  I talked to my friend and she said I could go with her.  She was going yesterday with her son who was in town anyway.  I told my husband I was going to go when he came out and he talked me out of it.  He was really worried about how I would feel afterwards.  I knew I would have pain from it and I was thinking I could just bite the bullet you know?  Well, he reminded me of some of the more difficult times I’ve had when all I did was get cold.  He said, not only would I get cold but I would be exercising more than I’m used it.  Way more since my muscles have shrunk down to nothing.  So, I listened to my guidance councilor and didn’t go.  After all, he is the one who has always been there by my side when I was down.  He remembers how it was and I tend to tune it out.  I want to think I’m still She-ra, princess of Power!!!  I knew he was probably right and I’m not as tough as I think I am anymore.  Pooh.

So now I’m going to put on my wii and skii!  hehe  <— I’m a poet and I know it!

The 1st day of the rest of my life

“What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.” – T.S. Eliot

Today was interesting.  I have been fighting this stomach thing and I couldn’t get to sleep all night.  My neighbors had a grand time with the fireworks and around 1 am I was wishing they would stick the next batch in their ears before lighting them.  They must have read my mind because they quit soon after.  I have powers like that.

Well, I tossed and turned, went to the bathroom, tossed and turned and went to the bathroom…. repeat that about 20 times  and by 4 am I was exhausted.  I finally fell asleep but I have no idea when.  I slept most of the day but now I feel a lot better!  I’m so glad too.  Since then I’ve been working on my journal and getting started on my New Smash journal I got from Michael’s Arts and Crafts.  I’m thrilled about that by the way.  I’ll be taking a picture to add here later.

I went back to my “To-Do List” for 2012 and my Goal List which I made with Google Drive (well it was called Google docs then).  Google Drive is really awesome by the way and it’s free.  If you are not familiar with it you should check it out.  It is a great word processor program that runs completely on the net.  All of my files are all saved on their servers so it doesn’t take up room on my pitiful little laptop computer.  You actually don’t even have to save because it is automatic.  Of course, I can save the files to my computer if I want to though and I can choose what type of file to save it as… html, open document, docx (microsoft word), pdf, Rich Text, plain text etc.  You can also email it as an attachment which is handy.  It is very easy to use and I just noticed I can add/change fonts!  There are a ton of cool fonts available to choose from.  There is also a handy app for iphone and android which makes me very happy.  I tend to save patterns for when I’m crocheting or knitting something and then if I’m not at home I can just open the file on my phone.  Nifty!

So I updated my lists and printed them up so I can add them to my Smash journal and I’m about ready to start working on that.

I’ve decided to participate in Home Storage Solutions 101’s Declutter Challenge where they have a daily task and you de-clutter every day for 15 minutes.  I learned about this last year but I was already doing my own thing and I hate joining something half way though.  I have some OCD traits I guess and my kids tell me I’m like “Monk“.  I love Monk.  What is so wrong or funny about being like Monk anyway?  I don’t get it.  Anyway, last year this site was just doing their 52 week challenge and I just can’t not start at the beginning of something and with “Week 1” dated as the 2nd week in January I decided to skip it.  I can’t read book series out of order either even if it doesn’t matter.  So this year they are also doing a Monthly calendar thing which will be posted on the last day of the previous month.  There is a small task to complete for each day for 15 minutes.  the whole idea for this system is you can do a lot in just 15 minutes.  You can download this calendar as a pdf file but after downloading that file I just hit Control + Print Screen and then pasted and saved it as a .jpg file using my cheesy little Paint program that came on my laptop.  Then I saved it as my desktop and now I don’t have to worry about losing it or spilling something on it.  Pret-ty han-dy!

Here is the link for the January Calendar and you can download the calendar as a PDF file there.  You can click below and save the .jpg version if you’d like.

I just read that the small 15 minute missions on the calendar and made to correspond with the weekly (52 week) challenge so it can be beneficial to do them together.  Of course I don’t always follow rules so I’m going to just do my own thing today.  The “mission” for today was to create a spot to put donations and such.  I already have that so I’m going to clear off my little table by where I sit on the couch.  I have a bunch of little stuff in containers that I like to keep handy there  – like a little flower pot I have full of various colored pens, adhesive and other stuff I use when I work in my journals.  I’m going to be watching some young kids starting next week I don’t want anything little or pointy in reach.

Well, since I’m feeling so much better I think I am going to get busy.  It is almost midnight but I don’t feel like sleeping.  I hope everyone had a great 1st day of 2013 and if not, a good 2nd, 3rd or 4th…. etc

Weekly Photo Challenge: My 2012 in Pictures

Standard

My 2012 in pictures.  This is another wordpress photo challenge.  I love participating in them anytime I can.   This one was actually easy because there pictures were already there from my blog posts and saved in my media gallery.  After looking through them I realized that my year was full of crafting.  I did a lot of crocheting, knitting, painting, tatting…  and journaling.  I also did a lot of reading.  I have to say, it was a good year and I enjoyed it.

I’m Thankful for Painkillers & Yarn

Standard

As the temperature drops my pain increases.   I pop more pills, turn up some music,  and keep busy to keep my mind off it.  Today is one of those days.  I’ve been going through a lot of yarn and pills.

I went on Ravelry.com and looked for some things on my list to work on.  I even downloaded a nifty iphone app called Yarma that connects to ravelry.  It is a simple app that is solely for taking and uploading pictures.  There are a handful of effects with clever fiber-friendly terms like K2tog, top down, lace weight, granny square (which adds a simple frame)… and vanilla for none.  All are simple so they wont over-power the beauty of the handmade item.

The first thing I made was a simple dishcloth which I’m pretty sure is based on a vintage potholder pattern I’ve seen before.  I had to be different though so I improvised a bit.

Delightful Daisy dishcloth

The pattern has a bunch of rounded petals but I wanted mine to be pointed like a daisy.  With a little patience I finally got it to come out like I wanted.  I like it a lot better than the original pattern but I will probably make some without my adjustments too.  They are very cute and cheerful.

I made a more simple washcloth yesterday and loved how it turned out.  I used this super soft, “Moss” green yarn that I bought one time without a clue what I would use it for.  I just new I needed to make something with it because it made me so happy!  So this one is mine and I’ve already used it.

Mossy Green Spa Cloth

I talked to my big sister today.  She is always a good person for me to talk to when I don’t feel well.  I was trying hard to stay awake so I could get my sleep schedule straightened out.  Well she reminded me of this pineapple scarf pattern that she loves and so I started making one.  I have this ball of Bouclé yarn that I’ve been hanging onto, waiting for the right project for this kind of yarn.  It has a texture that makes it difficult to work with but it always comes out beautiful!  It kept getting tangled up on itself and if it gets too tangled you might as well just cut it off and start all over.  Well I have half of the pineapple scarf done and it looks fantastic!   I just love the jewel tones mixed with black.

I am making it longer than the pattern says and I think I’ll add a tassel or fringe to the ends.

Goodies

Standard

Well I decided to post some more pictures of the cool stuff I got for Valentine’s Day (even though it was the day after).

I went to Michael’s and didn’t get a basket thinking I could get out of there without half the store.  I bought two 12×12″ scrapbook albums.  One of them is royal blue with a swirly design on the front.  The pictures didn’t turn out so I’ll have to try again on that one.  I got it for half off so I was happy about that.  The butterfly one by Martha Stewart was one I’d been drooling over for a long time now.  It was $25 regular price and I just couldn’t see spending that much so I was always waiting for it to go on sale.  Whenever it did it was not a good sale.  I guess no one was buying them at that price though so I ended up getting it for $8 on clearance!  I did a happy dance on the way to the register.  A manager/supervisor type stopped to see if I needed any help (since my arms were full) and she carried it to the register for me.

Of course that was the same time I got the butterfly punch/stamp set.

My husband took me to this great little antique store he spotted that was in a small house.  The house looked like it was very old as well.  My husband got spooked when we went upstairs and he felt like he was going to fall through the floor.  His head was touching the ceiling too.  I bought a few goodies while there.  I bought two little boxes for my collection, two necklaces, and some vintage buttons.  I didn’t even realize everything I’d bought was red.  How did that happen?  She gave me that little cloth bag for free to put one of my boxes in.  I love it.

After that my husband took me to this nice Italian restaurant called Gambadella’s.  It was delicious!  I actually tried something I’d never had before – Chicken Rustico.  I am not sure if I spelled that last part right but it was so good!   I usually take pictures of my food but my husband gets embarrassed so since he was treating me I didn’t want to do that.  I want to try to find a recipe although no one would eat it but me.  Maybe I should just go out to eat more often.

Well, tomorrow is Saturday and I love spending Saturday’s with my husband.  I usually run errands and grab a bite to eat.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.
